Referee Recertification

How long is my registration good for?

I took an entry clinic in the fall summer and fall of 2007, when do I have to recertify?

I was registered for 2007. How do I register for 2008?

I was a referee but did not register for 2007. What do I have to do to referee?

I am not sure I understand. I need help. Who do I contact?

Referee Certification Year

The certification year for referees is January 1 through December 31 of each year. 2008 registration is good through December 31, 2008.

2009 registrations are under way now. Referees that recertify now are eligible to continue officiating until January 1, 2010.

If you registered for the first time after July 1, 2007, you are registered for the year 2008. Your referee badge should say 2008 on it.. See New Referee section below.

Registration for 2008 will end on June 1, 2008..

When registering for a clinic, you will be requested to enter your personal information, or verify your Personal Information. Then you will see a Clinic Reservation page. You will need to scan down the left side and find the "click here" to continue registration and click on it, if no clinics are listed. Your current grade and Recertify should be already checked. Press Submit, then click on "Reserve" to reserve the clinic. Lastly, proceed to the "Checkout" section on the right to pay the fees. Do not attempt to checkout before you have reserved a clinic. You are not registered in the clinic until the fees are paid.

New Referee

A referee who took the entry level clinic for the first time between July 1, 2007 and December 31, 2007 is allowed to referee during the remainder of 2007. They are also registered for January 1 - December 31, 2008.

A new 2008 referee who certifies prior to June 1, 2008 must recertify for the year 2009 after July 1, 2008.

When registering for a clinic, you will be requested to enter your personal information, or verify your Personal Information. Then you will see a Clinic Reservation page. You will need to scan down the left side and find the "click here" to continue registration and click on it, if no clinics are listed. Select REFEREE, then select the Grade you want (Grade 8 or Grade 9). Press Submit, then click on "Reserve" to reserve the clinic. Lastly, proceed to the "Checkout" section on the right to pay the fees. Do not attempt to checkout before you have reserved a clinic. You are not registered in the clinic until the fees are paid.

RECERTIFYING REFEREES

I am registered for 2007. How do I register for 2008?

You may recertify prior to the begining of the year (2008) enabling you to continue officiating on January 1 of the new year. If you wait until sometime in 2008 to recertify, you are not eligible to referee until your certification is completed for the 2008 year.

When registering for a clinic, you will be requested to enter your personal information, or verify your Personal Information. Then you will see a Clinic Reservation page. You will need to scan down the left side and find the "click here" to continue registration and click on it, if no clinics are listed. Your current grade and Recertify should be already checked. Press Submit, then click on "Reserve" to reserve the clinic. Lastly, proceed to the "Checkout" section on the right to pay the fees. Do not attempt to checkout before you have reserved a clinic. You are not registered in the clinic until the fees are paid.

Certification ends each year on June 1 of the calendar year. For example, if you d0 not register prior to June 1, 2008 then you are not eligble to referee the remainder of 2008.

Example for the year 2008:

I was a referee but did not register for 2007. What do I have to do to referee?

Any referee who was not registered with the U.S. Soccer Federation the previous year may be certified at the grade previously held after taking and passing the qualifying clinic, written examination, fitness test, and assessments. The following policy applies to referees who were previously certified and registered with the Federation:

GRADE 7 and Higher Currently
  1. Referees can only be registered at the grade they qualify for.
  2. Referees who were Grade 7 or higher should be downgraded a minimum of one (1) grade, as per current policy (as long as they have met the criteria for that grade).
  3. Once they retake the appropriate course as listed for grade 8 referees and have completed all the requirements for the previously held grade, they may be upgraded.

GRADE 8 Currently

  1. Grade 8 referees who miss 1-2 consecutive years of registration can be re-registered as a grade 8 after completing a Referee Re-certification clinic.
  2. Grade 8 referees who miss 3-4 consecutive years of registration can be re-registered after taking the Referee Bridge (Grade 9 to Grade 8) Course or the entire Entry Level Referee Training Course.
  3. Grade 8 referees who miss 5 or more consecutive years must re-take the entire Entry Level Referee Training Course.

GRADE 9 Currently

  1. Grade 9 Referees who miss one or two years of registration may be re-certified after fulfilling all re-certification requirements for that grade.
  2. A Grade 9 Referee who misses two years of registration can be eligible to take the Bridge Course (9-8) after he or she has met the requirements to be re-certified as Grade 9.

INSTRUCTORS

U.S. Soccer Federation Referee Instructors who wish to re-certify as a referee after a lapse in referee registration may be registered as a grade 8 referee upon meeting current re-certification requirements, no matter how long it has been since they last registered as a referee, if they are currently registered as a US Soccer instructor and have taught, at a minimum, one entry-level referee training course in the last two years
