Assignor's Registration fee reset back to $20 for 2009

Based on a number of constructive conversations regarding the recent Assignor fee increase, we are announcing a one year moratorium on the 2009 Assignor fee increase.  Please note that all other increases will remain in place, as per the June 26, 2008 letter.   

The one year moratorium will allow the U.S. Soccer Referee Committee to review and evaluate in greater detail the overall Assignor landscape with the objective of implementing a new fee structure for the 2010 registration year.

"Over the past eight years, we have dramatically increased our investment in the referee program at all levels from improved training materials to increased training of young referees and full-time referees.  In fact, our annual expenditure in the referee department has increased from $1.5 million per year to a projected $2.8 million in our current fiscal year.  Throughout this time, our revenue has increased only slightly due to a greater number of registrations from $1.72 million to $1.9 million.  Unfortunately, this means our current fee structure is no longer sustainable for long-term referee development and we will be implementing a fee change for the 2009 calendar year. As you know, we take any change in fees extremely seriously and have not implemented a change in referee fees for over 22 years.  This coupled with our increased investment make it necessary to implement a fee change at this time."
